Over the last few years, we have seen a change in the perception of big tech companies and proprietary software. It used to be that IT professionals thought they could trust the big names in tech and use their products without second-guessing whether they have their customers’ best interests at heart. However, with the maturing of the cloud, we have seen a shift in perception. Suddenly, a big name is not enough to build trust. The mindset is shifting from trust to verifiability of and control over the software. This change in attitude has resulted in rising interest in free and Open-Source software. Whether it is the Sovereign Productivity Suite in Europe or the strengthening of code.gov in the US, there seems to be a shift in mindset away from having others exert control over a central part of your life or business.
