It’s been 11 years since the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was enacted and eight years since “Obamacare” officially launched in 2013, setting up online marketplaces or exchanges and affiliated hotlines for people to sign up.
Enrollment statistics show it’s been a busy time. In 2019, roughly 8.5 million people signed up for insurance through a state exchange or the nationwide HealthCare.gov portal. Another 8 million did so last year. With President Biden’s administration’s plan to extend expanded subsidies for insurance enrollment, I believe the ACA will almost certainly grow in size, reach and importance.
