Many senior executives outside the IT department still see IT as a service provider and not necessarily an integral part of their company. But digital transformation that replaces old processes with computer-driven approaches is slowly changing this outlook.
Unlike simply digitalizing analog processes, transitioning to modern consumer-centric thinking changes everything—most importantly, customers’ perceptions of a company and its offerings.
Take airlines. Many passengers were frustrated when they could not rebook flights or check flight status in the first mobile apps, and this has been a stark reminder of what can happen when digital transformation doesn’t meet expectations.
However, external consumers of IT services are only one part of the equation. Employees outside of your own IT department are an equally crucial group to keep in mind. Unfortunately, many share their bosses’ attitude that IT is either a hassle or a fact of life they must deal with.
